Red Light Conversations: Potential vs. Present Character, By Their Fruit

In a garden and in business, potential matters, but so does what consistently grows.

It's okay to see the good in people. It's okay to recognize their potential.

Just remember: that was your decision.

Don't hold someone accountable for the version of them you created in your mind. People can only give from the capacity they actually have, not the capacity you hoped they would develop.

Discernment isn't ignoring someone's potential. It's refusing to confuse potential with present character.

Jesus said, 'By their fruit you will recognize them.'- Matthew 7:16

See people for who they consistently show themselves to be, not just who they could become. It may save you from disappointment and help you extend grace without creating expectations they never promised to meet.

What are your thoughts? Have you ever had to learn the difference between someone's potential and their reality? Share your perspective in the comments.

Anyway... the light's green. 🚦
