Red Light Conversations: "Car!"- On Recognizing Warnings

A small red car approaches a red traffic signal on a quiet neighborhood street, with garden greenery nearby

Some warnings are quiet. This one carries the attentive care of a city gardener: noticing what needs attention before a small issue grows.

🚦 Red Light Conversation: "Car!"

Hook: Y'all remember back in the day when we'd be outside playing in the street?

Not the busy streets: the side streets. The ones where a car only came through every once in a while.

But the moment somebody saw a car coming, they'd yell one word:

"CAR!"

And everybody moved.

Core Insight: What's interesting is nobody stopped to debate it.

Nobody asked, "Are you sure?"

Nobody said, "Well, I don't see it."

Nobody got offended because someone warned them.

The warning wasn't an attack.

It was protection.

And sometimes I wonder how much trouble we'd avoid as adults if we responded to warnings the same way we did as kids.

Back then, when somebody yelled "Car!", we got out of the way first and figured everything else out later.

Now people ignore warnings because they don't like who's giving them.

Sometimes God sends warnings through situations, through people, through conviction, through closed doors, and instead of moving, we start arguing.

Witty Undercurrent: It's funny... as kids, we trusted the person yelling "Car!" enough to move immediately.

As adults, we'll stand in the middle of traffic demanding evidence.

Scriptural Anchor: "The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty."- Proverbs 22:3

Closing: Maybe wisdom isn't knowing everything.

Maybe wisdom is recognizing a warning when you hear one.

Anyway... light's green. 🚦
